Nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries have several drawbacks. They are prone to the memory effect, which can reduce capacity if not fully discharged before recharging. They also contain toxic cadmium, making disposal and environmental compliance more challenging. In addition, Ni-Cd batteries have a lower energy density compared to newer technologies like nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) or lithium-ion (Li-ion), meaning they store less energy for their size and weight.
